If you are shopping for an environmentally friendly home, consider a sustainable prefab home from Teak Bali.  Our sustainable prefab homes are built to be environmentally friendly and exceptionally energy efficient.  All building materials come with environmental costs. However, Teak Bali only uses legally harvested timber as teak Bali is SVLK certified. Please reference our blog topic on SVLK Certification. Timber is clearly the most carbon-friendly building material on the planet, please reference our Blog topic on the CO2 Related Benefits of our hardwoods.

Teak Bali has a handful of clients on both the Big Island and in the Caribbean living off-grid. Here are a few sustainable systems that are being implemented:

  • 0032_Sustainable_Prefab_Homes_001Double skin wall structures from Teak Bali can be insulated when required. Insulation keeps the climate inside your house under control and is essential for keeping your home warm in winter and cool in summer. It can also help with weatherproofing and soundproofing. A well-insulated and well-designed home provides year-round comfort, cutting down on cooling and heating bills.
  • Living with no public water, the use of metal roofs to allow for clean water catchment is required according to Hawaii Planning Code. Utilizing rainwater can reduce your water bills and is the only solution for those who wish to live off-grid whether in the outback or on deserted Island locations. For more information on Hawaii rated Water Catchment systems, please follow this link at the University of Hawaii website.
  • In terms of sustainable energy systems, most of our clients are using Solar these days to power their living spaces. We also have 2 clients on the Hamakua coast who have streams on their property and are experimenting with Hydro-Electric power systems.
  • Our client from Project CA-01 lives totally off the grid on a private Island with no infrastructure. He uses the sun to power his secret island hideaway and also uses Gray water systems for his septic requirements. Please keep your eyes posted for a future blog focusing on this completely off-grid sustainable solution.
  • Please also reference our Hawaii Sustainable Home Blog to see how a city couple from Oahu have migrated to the Big Island and are attempting to live in a completely organic environment utilizing the combination of a Biochar, Animals, Barter, a Green House and other sustainable Gardening techniques with a vision of living entirely “off the land”

0032_Sustainable_Prefab_Homes_002Environmental responsibility is an integral part of Teak Bali’s philosophy. Rather than just lessen our impact on the planet, our homes can create a positive, restorative effect. We believe that by taking the steps to better the environment today, we’re creating a higher standard for the future. In complete respect for our green planet and the natural environment which provides us with our raw materials, TEAK BALI has introduced a “2 for 1 Reforestation initiative” whereby we plant and cultivate twice the equivalent number of trees used in construction of our sustainable prefab homes. To enroll our clients in the sustainability thrust, for all of our clients that purchase a sustainable prefab home, Teak Bali provides hardwood seeds to plant on the client’s property.
